Nicholas Roach

Original Church Trustee & Pioneer

Irish Settlement (1849-1880s)

Nicholas Roach was one of the original trustees of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Roach family emigrated from County Wexford in southeastern Ireland and became one of Hubbardston's most prominent founding families. Nicholas and his siblings — including Katherine, Mary, Phillip, and Bridget — are a textbook example of chain migration. The Roach family donated land for St. John the Baptist Cemetery, and Walter T. Roach American Legion Post 182 bears the family name.
