Irish Settlement (1849-1880s)

John Cahalan served as one of the original trustees of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, alongside Thomas Welch, John Hogan, and Nicholas Roach. The Cahalan family played a vital role in the formal establishment of the parish in 1855 and donated land for St. John the Baptist Cemetery, consecrated in 1884. The Cahalan name remains one of the foundational Irish surnames of Hubbardston.
