Irish Settlement (1849-1880s)
Father George Goditz (also spelled Godez) of Westphalia, Clinton County, was the first priest to serve the Hubbardston Irish community. He began making pastoral visits around 1853, holding services at John Cummings' house. Under his early ministry, the parish of St. John the Baptist was formally organized in 1855.
