Hiram Brown
First Settler
Founding Era (1830s-1840s)
Hiram Brown arrived on October 3, 1836, making him and Hector Hayes the first Euro-American settlers in the township. Brown acquired 320 acres on Section 31 and additional land in Ronald Township. He brought ample food except flour — which proved nearly unobtainable on the frontier. Brown was also the man who discovered the burned ruins of the Glass cabin in March 1838.
