Founding Era (1830s-1840s)
Bartley Dunn was an early settler of North Plains Township whose house served as the site of the first township meeting on April 1, 1844. At that historic gathering, thirty-seven votes were cast and Nathaniel Sessions was elected the first township supervisor, defeating Hiram Brown. Dunn's role as host of this foundational civic event places him among the key figures in the formal establishment of local government.
