St. John the Baptist Cemetery

Standing

Consecrated in 1884 on land donated by five founding Irish families. A key genealogical resource for Hubbardston's Irish heritage.

St. John the Baptist Cemetery was consecrated in 1884 on land donated by the Roach, Welch, Hogan, Cahalan, and Connell families — five of Hubbardston's founding Irish clans. The cemetery is one of the most important genealogical resources in central Michigan for Irish-American family research. Headstones here record not only names and dates but often the Irish county of origin, such as the McKenna-Roach headstone that documents connections to Counties Monaghan and Wexford. A shrine at the cemetery entrance honors Father Eugene R. Fox, who served the parish for nearly 50 years (1938-1986). The cemetery remains active and is maintained by the parish. For genealogy researchers tracing Hubbardston Irish families, this cemetery is an essential primary source.
