The Hubbard Family

Non-Irish (American)1850s

Thomas Hubbard was associated with Hubbard, Taylor & Co., a lumber company that operated a sawmill on the site that would become the village. His business presence was significant enough that the village was named in his honor when formally established in 1854. While Hubbard was not Irish, his name is permanently inscribed on the community — 'Hubbardston' links the village to its lumber-era origins even as its identity became overwhelmingly Irish.
