Old Pioneer Cemetery
StandingThe earliest burial ground in the Hubbardston area, predating St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Resting place of the township's first settlers.
The Old Pioneer Cemetery is the earliest known burial ground in the Hubbardston area, predating the consecration of St. John the Baptist Cemetery in 1884. This cemetery served the township's first Euro-American settlers, including families who arrived in the 1830s and 1840s before the Irish immigration wave. The cemetery is a quiet, solemn site that connects the community to its earliest days on the Michigan frontier. Many of the headstones have weathered significantly, but the site remains an important historical landmark for understanding the full scope of settlement history in North Plains Township.
