McKenna Road Area

McKenna Road in the Hubbardston area is named for the McKenna family, Irish immigrants from County Monaghan who were among the founding settlers of the community. Mathew McKenna (born December 1830) emigrated from County Monaghan and married Katherine Roach of County Wexford, uniting two of Hubbardston's primary Irish family lines. The McKenna surname — Mac Cionaoith in Irish, meaning 'Son of Cionaoth' (born of fire) — was first found in County Monaghan. The road name is one of several landscape features in the Hubbardston area that preserve the memory of the Irish families who settled and farmed this land. Cashens Metal Works, a current local business, operates from 10056 McKenna Road.
